You might never expect that in such a remote area, you’re still able to have yummy Italian food. Yup! Even though Labuan Bajo is such a small town, there are some restaurants that have reasonably good European/Western food. One of my favorite restaurants is “The Lounge”.
“The Lounge” is located at the busiest street in town, the heart of the tourist activities, where all the dive centers are. It offers free wi-fi connection, something that’s not common to have in a small town. It is a good marketing strategy, because it attracts tourists who are on holidays, but still bringing their laptops/netbook with them.
The restaurant offers a wide range of food selection. From Western/European food to Indonesian food. Recommended Western/European meals are crespelle, calzone, raviolli spinach, raviolli putanesca, beef/chicken burger, garlic chicken with mango salad. They also have good mango salad as an appetizer. As for Indonesian food, you can try Pepes Ikan (fish baked in banana leaf), Chicken Satay, Nasi Goreng (fried rice), Tempe Penyet (mashed soya bean with chilli paste on top). Fresh juices are also available for those who are thirsty from the heat. What I like from this restaurant is that if you come here for lunch, the waiter will give you a cold towel to wipe your face/hands as soon as you sit on a big black pillow. The waiters are all nice and friendly, but the friendliest of all is the owner, Asep. He would greet and chat with you as if you’re already known each other for a long time. Such a cool guy he is. He always dresses up in funky clothes, I don’t even know why, but whatever he wears, it looks funky on him.
And oh, I also love the music here. Asep always plays nice loungy tunes in the afternoon, perfect for you who wants to have some snacks and afternoon drinks, while enjoying the sunset. As for the snacks, you might want to try the bruschetta here. And.. don’t leave the place before tasting the desserts. A must try is the chocolate mousse. The chocolate is so rich and creamy. Tasty!!! It will definitely make your tongue as happy as your heart…
